When I first sat down to start looking for an editor for Maybe One Day, I was completely overwhelmed and that’s coming from someone who is an editor herself. I knew what I was looking for, knew what kind of editing I needed, and had a short list of editors I wanted to reach out to. I was lucky enough to find the perfect editor for me and still recommend her to those who are looking for line edits today.3
When it comes to my own business, I pride myself on offering full transparency, so authors know exactly what they’re getting from me. With that being said, here are four quick reasons to consider hiring me for a developmental edit, manuscript evaluation, or proofreading.
Sample Edits: I offer sample edits on all my services. If you’re a new client, I actually require them. If you want your story to be as strong as it can possibly be, finding the right editor for you is essential.
Payment Plans: I never ask authors to pay for a service all at once. All my services are broken into four payments: a non-refundable 25% deposit due at the time of the booking, then the remaining three payments are split up during the service period. The first payment is due on the start date, the second in the middle, and the third at the end. All of this information is outlined in the contract but gone over prior to signing anything.
If that payment plan doesn’t work for you, I’m open to other options. I just require a deposit to hold your spot, and the final payment needs to be made before I return your manuscript.
Flexibility: Deadlines, am I right? They’re scary, they’re daunting, and life gets in the way of them. I try to be as flexible as possible because I know things happen. As long as you tell me twenty days prior to the start date, I will work with you determine a new date that fits in both our schedules without requiring a new deposit.
Empathy: I always say I edit with empathy, because it’s true! I’ll never tear you or your story down. I will offer constructive criticism while still being firm. My main goal as your editor is to focus in on your concerns, address them, and help you tell an amazing story.
